Bin Gao, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering

Bin Gao is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at Cornell University and his B.S. (Chemistry) and M.S. (Environmental Chemistry) from Nanjing University in China.

Bin’s research focuses on water quality and environmental sustainability, with research topics including environmental and water resources engineering, environmental nanotechnology, waste and water reclamation, and hydrologic modeling.

Current research efforts include 1) Impacts of engineered nanomaterials on soil and water quality 2) Fate and transport of pathogens in surface and ground water 3) Colloid facilitated transport of metals and pharmaceuticals 4) Multiscale simulations of colloid transport in unsaturated porous media 5) Water transport through gas diffusion layer in proton exchange membrane fuel cell. Gao received a recent NSF Career award for his proposal, “CAREER: An Integrated Research and Education Program to Improve Environmental Sustainability with Biochar Technology.”
