Faculty in the Spotlight<--Back

UF Water Institute Director Back from National Science Foundation Appointment ,

The University of Florida Water Institute is glad to welcome back its Director, Dr. Wendy Graham, after her 18-month appointment with the National Science Foundation. Graham served as a Program Officer in the Hydrologic Sciences Program and on the committee that launched the Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy and Water Systems (INFEWS) research initiative.

The highlight of her experience of her time with NSF was the chance to broaden her scientific perspectives and her professional networks.

"The best part of the appointment was getting to read so many fantastic proposals with new, cutting-edge ideas from all over the country, and the networking aspects of talking to people who submit and review proposals," said Graham.

She plans on sharing what she has learned from her time with NSF to help faculty from the Water Institute and UF write better proposals and build better scientific networks.

"My appreciation for the number of excellent scientific teams out there has increased," said Graham. "We need to continue to focus on strategic partnering with researchers across the country to write compelling proposals on cutting-edge science to compete in the national arena."

Graham enjoyed her time in Washington D.C. and supports other faculty pursuing similar opportunities.

“It was a great experience, and I would really encourage other faculty members to pursue a similar program officer experience,” said Graham. “It is professionally beneficial for you individually and provides an important service to the research community.”

Continuing her work as the Director of the Water Institute, Graham looks forward to forming and coordinating faculty teams to address food, energy and water issues.
