Dr. Wendy Graham appointed to Water Science and Technology Board ,

Dr. Wendy Graham, Director of the University of Florida Water Institute, has been appointed to the prestigious Water Science and Technology Board of the National Research Council. "I am very much looking forward to working on the Water Science and Technology Board to improve the scientific and technological basis for resolving important national issues associated with management and use of water resources", says Dr. Graham.

Since 1982, the Water Science and Technology Board has provided a focal point for studies related to water resources accomplished under the aegis of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, the nation's pre-eminent source of high-quality objective advice on science and engineering. The Board's scope covers all dimensions of water resources including science, engineering, economics, policy, educational issues, and social aspects.

As a Board member for 2017-20, Dr. Graham will serve in an oversight role for active projects of the National Research Council, assist in developing new National Research Council projects and initiatives, and help plan and participate in a 2-day autumn meeting of the Board in Washington D.C. The meeting will recognize the 35th anniversary of the Water Science and Technology Board and will include a session open to the public that will address the importance and challenges of water issues.

The National Academies of Sciences and Engineering are private nonprofit institutions whose work helps shape sound policies, inform public opinion, and advance the pursuit of science and engineering. Recent Water Science and Technology Board studies include reviews of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan Progress, the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan, the Affordability of National Flood Insurance Program Premiums, and Using Graywater and Stormwater to Enhance Local Water Supplies.
