Students in the Spotlight<--Back

Marie Kurz, PhD Student, Geology

Marie is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geological Sciences, member of the AM:W3 IGERT, and the current HSAC Student Representative. Marie's research focuses on the geochemical processes controlling stream chemistry. Her interests include the in-stream drivers of temporal and spatial chemical changes and the processes controlling the magnitude, chemistry, and variability of stream source waters. Her current research projects are addressing these issues in the context of Florida's spring-fed rivers. Ongoing projects include quantifying the biotic and abiotic processes driving diel (24-hr) elemental cycles in streams, and assessing the effect of hyporheic exchange and diffuse groundwater flow on carbonate and nutrient cycles in karst stream systems.
