Cynthia Barnett Joins Bob Graham Center ,

Cynthia Barnett, award-winning journalist and author, can now add Environmental Fellow in Residence to her resume. She will be joining UF’s Bob Graham Center for Public Service as a Fellow, a shared appointment with UF’s College of Journalism and Communications, where Barnett serves as Environmental Journalist in Residence.

An environmental journalist who has penned multiple best-selling books on water, Cynthia has reported on water and climate change worldwide. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida, in Journalism and American History, respectively. She also served as a Knight-Wallace Fellow at University of Michigan for a year, where she studied fresh water.

As Environmental Fellow in Residence, Cynthia will teach courses for the Graham Center’s public leadership minor, and team with UF students and faculty to lead environmental initiatives and improve public understanding of climate change and other complex environmental issues.

Cynthia will be moderating the “Telling Water’s Story” panel on Wednesday, February 7th sat the 6th UF Water Institute Symposium, with panelists Jennifer Adler Owen, Sandra Postel, and Margaret Ross Tolbert. In this Final Plenary, panelists will draw on a variety of personal and institutional perspectives to discuss major challenges to Florida’s water security and new opportunities to shape Florida’s water future. Policies and programs that are currently working well, as well as new initiatives necessary to ensure sustainable water resources, will be discussed.
