Evaluating Lagoon Quest: Enhancing an annual Program and Designing long-term indicators
Goals and Objectives

Lagoon Quest is a county-wide program for fourth graders that was designed by the Brevard Zoo and implemented with the Brevard Public Schools. Lagoon Quest was originally developed to increase knowledge of local environmental issues and estuarine ecology for students in fourth grade through eighth grade classes. Because of the success of this voluntary program, Brevard Public Schools included the program in their fourth-grade science curriculum beginning in 2005. Now all fourth-grade students and teachers are required to participate in Lagoon Quest. The purpose of the program’s expansion is to encourage all students to respect and be responsible for the Indian River Lagoon. UF was asked to assist with program evaluation which was developed with support from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the University of Florida/IFAS and School of Forest Resources and Conservation.
