In the 1990s the Florida legislature directed the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to develop BMP manuals and adopt them by rule. As a result it is important to quantitatively establish the effectiveness of the adopted BMPs. There is a need to review previously published research related to the effectiveness of Florida agricultural BMPs for conserving water and protecting water quality. In Phase I of this project relevant peer reviewed BMP research literature will be collected, indexed by BMP type, commodity, and location; and provided to FDACS in an endnote database. In Phase II of this project a systematic review of this literature will be conducted, executive summaries of BMP effectiveness by commodity will be produced, and knowledge gaps and priorities for future research needs will be identified. |
